PLAYER, PARENT, AND SPECTATOR CONDUCT
The Wylie Area Youth Sports (WAYS) organization adopts and fully enforces the following Zero Tolerance Policy. Any violation of this policy is considered conduct detrimental to the program and may result in disciplinary action.
This policy applies equally to all players, coaches, team officials, parents, and spectators. It remains in effect both on and off the field, and at any time an individual is participating in, attending, or representing WAYS at any event, activity, or gathering.
ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY
Parents and Spectators Shall Not:
- Arguing with referees or officials at any time.
- Using abusive, hateful, obscene, or vulgar language directed toward any individual, whether before, during, or after a game or practice. This includes entrances, parking lots, and all related facilities.
- Taunting, baiting, ridiculing, or threatening (verbally or physically) any player, coach, official, or spectator.
- Engaging in discriminatory language or behavior, including but not limited to racism, sexism, or any actions that contribute to a non-inclusive environment.
- Approaching or entering the field of play, including the sidelines, unless authorized.
- Using recording devices (cameras, phones, or other equipment) for any purpose other than recording one’s own player or team. Use of these devices to dispute a call or ruling is strictly prohibited.
- Throwing objects in the spectator area, sidelines, or on the field in a way that could cause harm or create a safety hazard.
- Returning to the field after ejection from a game or event.
- Engaging in or inciting fighting or physical abuse at any WAYS event (including practices, games, tournaments, and special events).
Disciplinary Action for Parents & Spectators:
- Gameplay Stoppage: If an official stops gameplay due to the conduct of a parent or spectator, that individual will be suspended from attending the team’s next scheduled game.
- Ejection: If an official ejects a parent or spectator from a game, that individual will be suspended from attending the team’s next three (3) games, in accordance with WAYS policies.
- Referral to the Board: Any parent or spectator found in violation of this policy will be referred to the board for review and potential discipline.
ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY FOR PLAYERS/ATHLETES
PLAYERS SHALL NOT:
The following behaviors are strictly prohibited for all players. Any violation may result in immediate removal from the game, suspension, or further disciplinary action:
- Arguing with referees or officials at any time.
- Using abusive, hateful, obscene, or vulgar language.
- Taunting, ridiculing, or disrespecting players, coaches, referees, or officials.
- Engaging in, or encouraging others to engage in, bullying, threats, harassment, or hazing, whether directed at teammates or players from another team.
- Deliberately attempting to injure another player.
- Making intentional physical contact with the body or equipment of another player after the whistle has sounded.
- Engaging in or inciting fighting or abusive physical contact while participating in any WAYS event, including practices, games, tournaments, or special events.
Disciplinary Action for Players:
- Team-Level Responsibility: The Team Head Coach is responsible for deciding and implementing disciplinary measures for individual players or the team.
- Parent Communication: The Team Head Coach is expected to communicate with parents early and often when behavioral issues arise.
- Game Suspensions:
- Multi-Game Suspensions/Strikes: If a multi-game suspension or strike is issued and the parents disagree with the decision, they may request a hearing with the Board.
